“Profit and margins have been damaged by British handbag-maker Mulberry’s bid to go even more up-market. The leather goods brand reported a 36 per cent drop in half-year profit, in contrast to the Italian designer Prada’s forecast-beating 30 per cent profit jump for its third quarter.” (Independent)

Sir Philip Green Completes Sale of Topshop, Topman Brands

“Sir Philip Green and Leonard Green & Partners have entered into a deal that aims to generate $1 billion in revenue from the Topshop and Topman brands in the U.S., and to double the brands’ worldwide sales over the next three to four years.” (WWD)

Raf Simons’ Dior Revolution

“Raf Simons’ focus in changing the face of Dior is to make it a brand that is “worn on the street”. The move contrasts strongly to predecessor John Galliano’s dramatic aesthetic – a style, the Belgian designer says, that Christian Dior himself would not have been happy with.” (Vogue UK)

Zara opens eco-friendly London flagship

“Zara, the Inditex Group’s fashion retailer, has opened its fourth store in London in the newly opened Park House building, marking Inditex’s 6,000th outlet. The three-floor store features Zara’s “revamped image”, which was first unveiled in New York City in March, and has been designed around the four guiding principles: beauty, clarity, functionality and sustainability, with the retailer’s environmental commitments at the centre of the design.” (Fashion United)

Balenciaga To Launch Couture Line?

“Balenciaga could be launching a couture line under the supervision of its new creative director, Alexander Wang. Fran çois-Henri Pinault, CEO of PPR – the luxury conglomerate that owns the fashion house – last night hinted that the designer could take the brand further into haute couture territory in the future.” (Vogue UK)
